Apply to Germanna Community College
To become a student at Germanna, fill out the FREE application. Paper applications are available through the Admissions and Records Office if needed. Once your completed application is submitted, a student ID number is issued. The student ID number is needed to conduct all business with the College.
Students under 18 and who are still in high school have special admissions requirements. These students need to inform GCC staff of high school status to ensure accurate enrollment processing.
Germanna accepts applications from international students from overseas or from within the United States in F1 Visa status. Students who meet the qualifications are accepted for the fall and spring semesters. New students are not accepted in the summer.
Submit All Required Documents
To complete your admission to Germanna Community College, please provide an official high school transcript or GED and if applicable, copy of official college transcript(s).
In order to apply credits from other colleges towards a Germanna program of study, a Request for Evaluation of Transfer Credit form needs to be submitted to the Admissions and Records Office. Students with Advanced Standing such as AP, IB, CLEP, or military credits should follow the same process to have these credits reviewed.
International students seeking an F1 student visa are required to submit additional documents to finalize their admission to Germanna. These forms include: the I-20 application, the affidavit of support with financial statements, copy of the I-94 and proof of health insurance. English proficiency may be demonstrated with a TOEFL score of 80 or higher.
Get Connected - Log on to myGCC
Use your student ID to log on to myGCC which is the portal to most of the College’s resources. Under myGCC students need to set up their Germanna Email Account, and familiarize themselves with Blackboard. If you need assistance, click on the Student Helpdesk.
Attend an orientation session to get acquainted with Germanna Community College. Visit the Germanna.EDU Homepage and look for Orientation Session dates under Upcoming Events. Select the preferred session listing and sign up.
GCC box for practice tests and review materials. Students are tested in reading, writing and mathematics and scores are good for a limited time. Students who prepare for the tests have more positive outcomes Remember, a valid state-issued photo ID and Germanna Student ID number are required to test.
Students who have successfully passed a college level English and/or Math course with a grade of C or better can use those college credits instead of taking the placement test. Students who have SAT scores of 520 and above, or ACT scores of 22 and above in Math do not have to take the math placement test.
Students who have SAT scores of 500 and above, or ACT scores of 21 and above in Reading and Writing do not have to take the English placement test.
Unofficial copies of scores can be used for advising and registration and should be brought with students to all advising/registration appointments. The official scores/ transcripts must be submitted to the Admissions and Records Office.
Paying for College/Financial Aid
The Financial Aid Office can assist with applying for financial aid. You must apply on-line through FAFSA on the web at https://fafsa.ed.gov/. May 1st is the FAFSA Priority Filing Date for the College each year. Students should file their FAFSA as early as possible and respond to requests for information promptly. When completing a FAFSA each year, you must list Germanna Community College in order for us to receive your information electronically. The school code for Germanna Community College is 008660. You and your parent(s) must obtain a federal pin number at http://pin.ed.gov/ prior to completing the FAFSA.
Prepare for and Complete Academic Assessment
Are you ready for the Virginia Placement Test (VPT)? It is extremely important to prepare in advance of taking the VPT.
Meet with a Counselor
Counselors assist with a variety of services such as career exploration, the transfer process, and selection of an academic program. After students choose a program of study and have completed their first semester, they are assigned a faculty advisor to advise them until graduation.
Register and Confirm Course Schedule
Germanna offers classes at a variety of locations. At the time of registration, students need to review their schedules closely and confirm the classes, dates, times, and locations are correct. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure their schedule is accurate. Payment for classes is required to finalize registration. Most importantly: be sure to regularly check your myGCC account “To Do List” and student email for financial aid status updates.
Purchase Textbooks and Supplies
Students should bring their course schedule with them to the Germanna bookstore to ensure proper selection of a textbook. Visit the Bookstore online at www.efollett.com.
