A student whose spouse/parent was killed in action or who has 100% service-connected disability, and have never used their benefits before, should fill out the Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (VA form 22-5490). This is commonly referred to as Chapter 35 benefits. Students who have used their Chapter 35 benefits before at another school and would like to transfer those benefits for use at Germanna Community College should fill out the Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (VA form 22-5495).
