Are You Germanna Ready? - Testing Guidelines

admissions background
  • Do I need the VPT-Math Placement Test?

Are you a new college student?

If you are brand new to college courses and do not answer yes to any of the questions below, you will need to take the VPT Math test to determine your college placement.

Review materials are available for you to prepare for successful placement.

    Are you Math ready?

Are you ready for the Placement Test?

Were you a GCC student a long time ago?

Your placement scores are good for two years. If you have not taken any college math classes and have been gone from GCC for more than two years, you will need to take the VPT Math test to determine your new placement. Effective fall 2013 – developmental math classes are only good for two years so students who have dev math classes more than two years old, also have to take the VPT to determine placement

Contact the math department chair to discuss your math experience and options.

Do you have transfer credits or dual enrollment credits in Mathematics?

If so – you probably do not need to take the VPT Math test. Please show your transcripts to a counselor or advisor for review. He or she will determine if any parts of the VPT Math test needs to be taken and explain this to you.

Do you have SAT Math Scores of 520 or higher or ACT Math Scores of 22 or higher?

These scores place you into MTH 151, 152, 157, 163, 166, and 170. If you wish to enroll in one of these courses, you do not need to take the VPT Math test. If you wish to place into MTH 164, 173, 240, or 271, you will need to complete the VPT Calc Only test that will determine if you are eligible. To proceed, please show your SAT or ACT scores to a counselor or advisor for review. He or she will then grant permission for the VPT Calc Only test.
