Student Services - Admission of Dual Enrollment Students

(High School and Home Schooled Students)

Catalog and Student Handbook

Dual enrollment allows students to earn college credit while still in high school. High school juniors and seniors or the home school equivalent, may be able to take Germanna courses if they meet admission, placement and prerequisite requirements. Students may take courses to meet high school and college requirements or take courses for college credit only. Students who take a dual enrollment course will have a Germanna transcript that documents the courses(s) taken and the grades received. Highly qualified students who meet stringent admission criteria may be able to complete a General Education certificate or degree while in high school. Students interested in this opportunity should consult with their school directly. Documentation of parental permission is required for all dual enrollment students.

Home school students must also provide a copy of a home school agreement approved by the school district or a letter from the local school board or a copy of the letter filed by the parent/legal guardian declaring home school for religious exemption. Enrollment at the College is considered enrichment to the home school program and is not meant to substitute for the home school experience. Because admitting freshmen and sophomores is considered exceptional, the college ready status of each prospective freshman and sophomore student will be treated on a case-by-case basis. Formal approval by the college president is required for admitting freshmen or sophomores.

All students admitted under this section must demonstrate readiness for college by meeting the criteria below.

The College reserves the right to evaluate special cases and to refuse admission to an applicant when such action is in the best interest of the College and/or the applicant. The College also reserves the right to limit the number and type of courses a student may take if they do not possess a high school diploma or equivalent. High school/home school students are not permitted to enroll in developmental studies courses at the College, as this level of instruction should be available in the high school or home school program. Because Germanna strives to maintain a mature academic environment, high school/home school students admitted under the special provisions will be subject to all rules, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct described in the Germanna Community College Catalog & Student Handbook. High school students must be in good academic and behavioral standing in high school in order to be considered for admission to the College.
