CREATING STUDENT HOMEPAGES

Not all courses will have the Student Homepage feature available; instructors have the option to disable this feature. If enabled, a Student Homepage for each member of the class is located under Communication on the course menu. To view a Student Homepage, select Roster, search for and then click on the name of the student. To edit your Student Homepage, go to Tools on the course menu and select Homepage.

Content Areas
The Student Homepage is divided into four areas: Intro Message, Personal Information, Upload Photo, and Favorite Links.
  • Intro Message is an opportunity to introduce yourself to your classmates and share why you are taking the class.
  • In the Personal Information section, tell your classmates a little about yourself -- your educational goals, job, interests, hobby, family -- whatever you want to share.
  • You can add a picture of yourself to the page in the Upload Photo section.
  • Favorite Links are your favorite web sites that you want to share with the class.
Adding Text
  • Compose your text in a word processing program. Proofread, spell check, and save the document.
  • To add some formatting to your text (such as bold, italics, or color), you must use HTML tags.
Uploading Pictures
  • You will first need a digital image of yourself. You can use a image taken from a digital camera or scan an existing photo. The Academic Computing Center can help you with scanning existing photos.
  • The image file should be saved in a JPG format. A photo that is saved in a BMP (bitmap) format cannot viewed in all browsers.
  • If necessary, use a photo editor to re-size the image. The image should be no larger than 300 pixels wide.
Adding Favorite Links
  • Have the complete URL for the web page - do not forget the http://.
  • Add the name of the web site.
  • Include a description of the web site to give your classmates an idea of the content.
