Educational Foundation Scholarships

One completed application form is all that is necessary to complete this process. It will be noted if a specific scholarship requires additional materials or information.

Selection Criteria:

Students who demonstrate a desire to succeed and who have demonstrated a clear commitment to an personal and academic advancement and who most closely match the criteria for that scholarship.

Only the materials listed above will be taken into consideration when evaluating a student's scholarship application. Extraneous materials such as excess letters of recommendation, photos, certificates, etc will be removed from the application before being reviewed by the scholarship committee. It is not necessary to place the application in a folder or binder.

Tips for the Essay:

For many students, the essay can be the most challenging part of the application. The essay is the best opportunity to help the scholarship committee get to know you. The most successful essays engage the committee and reveal something about the applicant, not just the writing topic. Proofread your essay a number of times and ask your English teacher or a tutor to review it as well. The essay lengths is limited to 600 words.

Steps for submitting an Educational Foundation Scholarship Application

Step 1

Before attempting to complete the online application, you will need to prepare your essay on the topic located in step three. You will also need to apply for admission to Germanna Community College because the application form requires a student ID number. Because many email hosts reject unknown addresses, please add scholarships@germanna.edu to your email address book so that you are able to receive email communications.

Step 3

Application Essay (maximum of 600 words)

For your essay, you will write a Thank You letter as if you have already been awarded a Foundation Scholarship. Please address the letter to the President of the Foundation, Ms. Wallace, and in your letter, include answers to the following:

  • If you are a Germanna student, describe how your life has changed as a result of attending the college.
  • If you are not a current student, describe why you are choosing Germanna.
  • Describe why you chose your major.
  • How will an education from Germanna help you reach your goals?
  • How will a scholarship improve your financial situation?
  • How do you plan to use your education once you graduate?

It is important that you include answers to as many of these questions as possible as it will greatly improve your score and therefore your chances of being awarded a scholarship. We are looking for well thought out essays that show need, exemplary student qualities and with no spelling or grammatical errors. Please do not hit the "enter" key between paragraphs when typing your essay. Your essay will be formatted and downloaded into the database.

Step 4

Verify your information. If anything is wrong with what you have entered, you may click on the Go Back button to edit information. Once you have submited your application (academic resume and essay), you will receive an email confirmation. The server will not accept another application from the same student, should you encounter any problems please contact the Educational Foundation at scholarships@germanna.edu.
