Germanna Guarantee Program   (GGP)

The Germanna Community College Mission

The Mission of Germanna Community College is to provide accessible, quality educational and training opportunities that meet our communities’ changing learning needs.  The Germanna Community College Educational Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization established to promote the growth, progress and well-being of the college and its students through raising, investing and administering private funds to support the mission of the College.

What is the Germanna Guarantee Program?

The Germanna Guarantee Program (GGP) is a financial assistance program designed to give students who have potential to succeed, and who require additional financial support, the opportunity to pursue and achieve their educational goals at Germanna Community College. The goal of this program is to ensure that no student is denied access to education at Germanna Community College because of financial need. GGP complements federal and state financial aid, and is often awarded after these forms of financial aid have been determined.

How is the program administered?

  • Students enrolled in a credit program of study at Germanna Community College are eligible to receive GGP funding.
  • Applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.0 and be potentially eligible to receive financial aid.
  • Students must have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the College Financial Aid Office in order to be considered.  This file is used to determine and verify financial need.
  • The Financial Aid Office reviews and awards GGP funds.
  • The Financial Aid Office sends notification letters to applicants of award approval. These letters state the amount of award, what expenses the funds may support, (e.g., tuition, books, education-related expenses, or a combination of the above), and the term of the award (e.g., Fall and/or Spring Semesters)
  • The Financial Aid Office establishes an account from which tuition and book charges may be deducted.  In some cases, GGP awards are provided directly to students, typically to meet emergency expenses or to reimburse students for current educational expenses.  At mid-semester, the Foundation Coordinator reviews award balances.  Depending on the student’s status and the amount of scholarship funds remaining, the Educational Foundation will issue a check directly to the student, or return the funds to the Educational Foundation.
  • GGP book awards follow the same guidelines as generally found with other forms of financial aid.  For example, used books should be purchased before new ones (if available), and items purchased must pertain to the courses in which the student is enrolled.
  • The Foundation Coordinator maintains a file to include copies of GGP award listings.  At least annually, the Foundation Coordinator reports to the Foundation Board the numbers of students supported and the amounts awarded through the program.

Please be aware that beginning fall 2009, GGP is administered through the Financial Aid Office of Germanna Community College.  There is no application process through the Foundation. Procedures are currently in place to provide information to those needing financial assistance. Aid will be automatically awarded prior to the payment period through Financial Aid to those whose account information is up to date with sufficient documented need per the guidelines.  If you have any questions regarding the Germanna Guarantee, please contact Michael Farris, Coordinator of Financial Aid, at mfarris@germanna.edu or call 540-834-1044 or email scholarships@germanna.edu

Thank you for your interest in the Germanna Guarantee Program.
