PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AWARD GUIDELINES

The Educational Foundation understands the importance of continued professional development and will make awards for innovative projects, novel approaches, and creative activities that support the college's mission.

Purpose

The Foundation seeks proposals that present promising ideas for encouraging academic enrichment and professional development in support of the mission of the College.

Guidelines

  • Germanna faculty and classified staff may apply.
  • This is a competitive process.
  • All applications must be received by the posted timelines .

Terms and Conditions
  • Awards are not intended to replace budgeted funding.

  • Technology and Equipment:
    • Equipment and/or materials (non-consumable items) purchased with the award become property of Germanna and will be designated for use by the award recipient.
  • A follow up summary highlighting the accomplishments of the project, including anecdotal and photographic records will be required for the award recipient by the posted deadlines.
  • There is no monetary limit for any proposal. Each proposal will be judged on its merits, funding, if any, will be awarded on that review.
  • Funds not spent by the end of 12 months will be given back to the Foundation, unless otherwise specified by a particular endowment.

Selection Criteria (100 points)

  1. The proposal enhances and improves student learning in the following ways: (60 points)
    • Engages students as active participants in the learning process.
    • Encourages specific improvements in students' skills and attitudes.
    • Nurtures the students' desire to learn and create.
    • Addresses an under served need.
    • Has a lasting benefit, opposed to a one-time event.
  2. It can be replicated: (10 points)
    • Can be easily adapted for use by other.
  3. Collaboration with others: (10 points)
    • Collaborative efforts across disciplines and/or between departments and/or community.
  4. Budget is clear and effectively supports the proposal: (20 points)
    • Includes itemization of expenses.
    • Reflects expenditures that directly support the proposed activities.
    • Establishes a base for future activities that will not require additional funding.

Funds will be disbursed as needed according to the timeframe proposed in the application. Recipients must submit Foundation requisition forms with receipts to the Foundation to receive reimbursements. Any travel associated with the project must follow state guidelines.

Submission Guidelines

A complete application must be received by 4 pm on submission date (See Project Dates table). APPLICATIONS AFTER THE DEADLINE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR THE CYCLE.

Awards

Recipients of Professional Development awards will be notified. (See Project Dates table)

Final Report

Grant recipients are required to submit a final report and project documentation to the Foundation office. (See Project Dates table)

The final report should be answer the following:

  • Title of Project
  • Project Description (50 words or less)
  • Original expected results/outcomes
  • Actual results/outcomes
  • Critique of the project
  • Budget expenditures
  • What benefits are you able to provide for your students, discipline, college, or community?
  • How will you disseminate results or outcomes of your project? Include documentation of your implementation. Be specific.
