PNE 130 - PNE 130 Maternity Nursing ( 3 CR)

Teaches knowledge, understanding, and nursing skills related to the needs of women and other family members during all phases of childbearing. Presents abnormal conditions of pregnancy. Lecture 2-3 hours. Laboratory 3-6 hours. Total 5-8 hours per week.

The course content in PNE 130 is built upon Germanna Community College Nursing Program's conceptual framework. This course is designed to provide the opportunity to utilize the nursing process in meeting the needs of women/newborns/families experiencing normal growth and development and those with alterations of health requiring medical or surgical intervention. Maternal and newborn nursing is designed to provide the student with knowledge, concepts, and nursing skills related to the needs of women, newborns, and families throughout all phases of childbearing.

 

The student will have a variety of clinical experiences under faculty supervision that will develop beginning skills and critical thinking related to maternal and newborn nursing across the wellness – illness continuum
