PNE 161 Nursing in Health Changes I ( 6 CR)

Focuses on nursing situations and procedures necessary to assist individuals in meeting special needs related to human functions. Lecture 2-4 hours. Laboratory 6-15 hours. Total 10-17 hours per week.

The course content in PNE 161 is built upon Germanna Community College Nursing Program's conceptual framework. PNE161 is the study and application of concepts, skills, and technologies basic to all nursing practice. Included are cognitive, psychomotor, affective, and interpersonal techniques organized through the nursing process to assist individuals in meeting needs related to human functions. The course explores the curricular threads of health, nursing, wellness, and the nursing process and relates these to the individual across the lifespan. Students will apply these principles in the demonstration of beginning skills for meeting the multidimensional needs of individuals. Issues related to the health care environment and cultural influences will also be explored. The student will explore the Internet, basic computer skills, therapeutic communication, and assessment skills to identify the need for critical thinking. This course builds upon knowledge acquired in prerequisite courses and serves as a building block for future practical nursing courses.
