What is Great Expectations?
Great Expectations is a program at Germanna Community College for area foster youth ages 16-19 to help them in the transition from high school to college or a career. Great Expectations consists of a two day on-campus program as well as a one year mentorship program.Through this program foster care youth receive information about the services of the college, participate in a mini-college experience, and receive one-on-one mentoring with a student from Germanna Community College.

In addition to the on-campus portion of the program, you will be mentored by a Germanna Community College student for one year. You will have the opportunity to meet your mentor during the two day on-campus program. The mentor and mentee maintain communication for the following year through either supervised, on-campus visits, or by phone or email.

Am I eligible to particpate?

You are eligible to particpate if you are between the ages 16-19 and are or were affiliated with the foster care system, or if you were adopted after age 13.

What do I receive for completing the program?

Great Expectations is a non-credit course. Upon completion of the program you will earrn:   

    --Certificate of Completion

    --One Continuing Education Unit  

What do I need to do to participate in the program?

You need to complete and submit the application and registration form. You will find the form under the "Forms" tab.

When is the Great Expectations Program Offered?
The Great Expectations Program is offered in the fall and spring semesters at the Fredericksburg Area Campus.  Check the Upcoming Dates page for the latest dates!
