Want to become a surgical scrub nurse?
A surgical scrub nurse assists surgeons as part of an operating room nursing team. Responsible for arranging all necessary medical equipment and handling them to surgeons when requested, scrub nurses are tasked with sterilizing instruments and accounting for all equipment post-surgery. Duties of the surgical scrub nurse may be performed in operating rooms, ambulatory centers, central supply, labor and delivery area, catheterization laboratories, private physicians' orrices, and other areas where invasive procedures are performed.
Germanna Community College offers a 12 credit program to prepare and qualify LPN's for careers as surgical scrub nurses.
What You Need Before You Apply
This program is available for current practical nurses licensed in Virginia.
- A criminal background check is required for admission to the Nursing Program as clinical affiliates include this requirement in affiliation agreements. Students with criminal convictions who do not self-disclose this information are subject to dismissal or non acceptance.
