Surgical Scrub Nursing
Purpose : The Surgical Scrub Nursing program is designed to prepare current Licensed Practical Nurses to work as surgical scrub nurses, assisting surgeons in performing surgical procedures. Duties of the surgical scrub nurse may be performed in operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, central supply, labor and delivery areas, catheterization laboratories, private physicians' offices and other areas where surgical procedures are performed. Occupational Objective : To obtain employment as a surgical scrub nurse in a variety of area health care agencies. Admission Requirements : Prospecive Surgical Scrub Nurse students must be Licensed Practical Nurses and must provide the Nursing Office with a copy of their Virginia license and a criminal history report prior to admission to the NUR 142/280 courses. Instructions on how to submit a report and explanation for the requirement of a report are available in the Nursing Office. The program requires additional expenditures including the Surgical Scrub nurse student's health assessments, immunizations, uniforms, supplies and equipment among other expenses. Objectives : The objectives of this Career Study Certificate are to: Provide Licensed Practical Nurses with a specialized career path.
