How do I request a Blackboard course site for the class I am teaching?

You no longer have to request that a Blackboard course site be created for CREDIT COURSES that you are teaching. All courses will automatically have a Blackboard course site created for you one month before the beginning of the semester. In the rare event that your course site has not been set up for you, please email Forrest Smith, and we can get one set up for you.

Why can my students not see my course?

After your course site has been created, you will need to make your class available. Go into your course, choose Control Panel on your left, find the link that says, "Customization," click on "Properties," locate section 2 for "Course Availability," check yes to make it available and then hit submit.

How do I create a Discussion Board Thread ?

  1. Navigate to to the Discussion Board and click on the Forum you wish to add a thread to.
  2. Click the "Create Thread," button.
  3. Provide a subject for the Thread in the Subject field.
  4. You may attach a file by clicking the Attach a file link
  5. Click the Submit Button.

How do I create a back up of my course?

It is a good idea to have a back up copy of your course for future reference.  To do this you need to export the course:

  1. Go into the Blackboard course you wish to export FROM.
  2. Go to the Control Panel.
  3. Click on Packages & Utilities (near the bottom).
  4. Click on Export/Archive Course.
  5. Click Export button.
  6. Choose the parts you want to export.
  7. Click Submit  (tests, surveys, & pools  are near the bottom). You will receive an email that the Export is complete (this may take some time, it takes the most time at busy times of the semester – like this week)
  8. After getting the email, Go back to the Control Panel .
  9. Click on packages & utilities.
  10. Click on export/archive course.
  11. Download the zip file package that is now listed, make sure you know where you download it, so you can import it to another course. You will not be able to open this file as it is a Bb specific file. Exporting a course does not save grades

How do I download the grades from the Grade Center?

To download grades:

  1. Go to the Grade Center.
  2. Near the top right corner, locate the “Work Offline” button
  3. Click on the down arrows/Chevron
  4. Select Download
  5. Then make the selections you wish to make
  6. Click Submit
