TESTING SERVICES
Testing Services Compass Placement Test
Information
Assessment of skill level is mandatory for all new students. Test results
are used to determine which classes you are eligible to take: you cannot fail
these tests.
On rare occasions, power outages, server outages, or weather problems can
and do close us without warning when we least expect it. We recommend that
you plan to take you tests well in advance before you need them. Allow yourself
sufficient time for testing and enough time for us to serve you well.

Directions for Accessing
the Online Virginia Placement Test [VPT] Practice Test
Remember: A combination of letters
and numbers should be entered for the Student ID field. For current
VCCS students, the letters of the college abbreviation should precede the
student ID use a different random combination of numbers following the college
abbreviation. For the Email Address field, practice
test takers should enter a personal email address (NOT the student's college
email address)so that the student can receive an auto-generated email containing

Placement tests (English and ESL) must be started 2
hours prior to closing.
Math Placement test must be started 3 hours
prior to closing.
Please allow at least 3 hours for math placement test.
**Only Calculator used for VPT math is available in the test software.

Students are advised to leave ample time to complete
a placement test. The reading and writing sections of the test
may take many students 1 hour
each to complete and the math section
can take 3 hours
or more to complete. Once a test session is opened, you must
complete that session.
