Paraprofessional Counseling
Paraprofessional Counseling CertificateThe Paraprofessional Counseling Certificate is a unique seven course certificate that will be a stepping-stone or an end point for individuals wanting to go into a helping profession. The 21 credits for the certificate can stand alone or be applied to an Associate's Degree in General Studies. For students wanting to eventually pursue a Bachelor's Degree or higher, the certificate allows students to learn about themselves and about the helping professions early in their education. It includes a 225-hour internship during which the student begins to build some experience. I will assist the student to find an internship that meets with their experience and future goals. PrerequisitesI advise students that plan to pursue the AA degree to take Eng 111 and Eng 112. Writing skills are required in the Psy class.Reading or writing deficits would need to be addressed through our developmental reading and writing class prior to taking Psychology. Courses Required
RecommendationsIf a student decides to take two classes at a time, I recommend taking Psy 200 and Psy 120 together. The following semester take Psy 230 and Psy 215. The following year take Psy 226 and the Psy elective in the fall then take Psy 290 in the spring. Students could also be taking the requirements for the AA in addition to this schedule, if they desire.
