Plans for a Dynamic International Week

The committee agreed to postpone plans for the following year and to concentrate on our usual spring luncheon

The sub committee was successful in obtaining a grant to fund exploratory travel to India August 08 for three faculty members.

Gathering information about various foreign studies

Mentoring

Very few applicants, needs more advertising

Revise the current travel guidelines and procedures

 

Just about complete , final recommendations need put together

Ann suggested a possible link up with her daughter in Japan for an in-service or a WOW meeting

Updating the International Student List on Blackboard as well as maintaining International Student demographics was a high priority for the committee.

An international “ welcome” in many languages and committee members agreed that a similar welcome should be planned for next fall for our students

Sunithi stated that her class on the Immigrant Experience is hosting a cross cultural event at GCC on December 3

Suggested that there be a required note in all faculty’s course outlines for international students who need some assistance…similar to the statement now required regarding students with disabilities

Suggested that faculty from the committee agree to advise all ESL students.   Phyllis discussed the nursing process for advising and keeping records for their students that could be adapted to advising International students

.   All faculty International Education committee members will be asked to serve as international student advisors as needed

Sunithi reported that she and Phil Turpak are presenting at New Horizons’s on the success of their fall cross cultural classes.
