David Anthony Sam
Born in western Pennsylvania and raised in Michigan, Dr. David Anthony Sam was a first-generation college student who earned BA and MA degrees from Eastern Michigan University and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
He has been a retail store owner/manager, a published poet, a college English teacher, and a college administrator. He served as a student affairs administrator at Marygrove College in Detroit and Oakland Community College in Michigan, as an academic administrator at Oakland and Jackson Community College in Michigan, and as chief academic and workforce officer and Vice President at Pensacola State College in Florida before becoming the fifth president of Germanna Community College in March of 2007.
Dr. Sam is married to Linda who is a retired community college developmental studies professor. They live in Culpeper County. Their daughter Michelle is married to Kevin and both are middle school teachers in Michigan where they raise their three children, Kaitlyn (12) and Carter (10) and Mackenzie (7). Ryan, the Sams’ son, a graduate of Pensacola State College lives in Spotsylvania where he works as a graphic designer.
Dr. Sam also has consulted with colleges and nonprofit organizations in mission building and strategic planning. As hobbies, he enjoys reading, writing, photography, cooking, gardening, hiking, and nature walking. He currently serves on the Boards of the Central Virginia Partnership for Economic Development, the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance for Economic Development, The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce, the Orange Rotary Club, and Career Partners of Culpeper.
